You got beats?

So as I have said in the past I do a little music programing. I have a program called Reason by a company called Propellerhead  and I've had it for about five months now. I really don't think of myself as a musician, I mean besides the fact that I don't play any instruments and I don't know a lick of music much less read it, but a few years ago I fell in love with synthesizers. You might think, "synthesizer?" that's that keyboard all the eighties new wave bands were using but truth be told that those keyboards weren't true synths, they were just keyboards that had preset synth patches. So by now you should be like "what?" Here is a small trajectory of this phenomenon that is the Analogue Synthesizer: the theory of the analogue synthesizer is the belief that like a telephone that creates sound into an electric current a synth creates sounds from an electric current thus creating a synthetic sound. This sound has a shape in a wave table as a line and the sound is like an endless beep, but through low-pass and high-pass filters the shape of the line could be changed or distorted to create a new sound, and that's just a monophonic synth you can imagine a polyphonic synth!

Any who, so I got the program and started messing with the preset patches and soon started making my own, I soon needed to make more than just sounds so I began to make little beats that I started calling Microwave Beats because I really wasn't editing them or mixing them, I was just layering them.

Here is a Microwave Beat I created using Reason 5, all criticism accepted and if you got pointers even better. Enjoy!

Yesterday.....

Yesterday was a great day I had things to do and errands to run. The day started by me finally getting out at about 1pm. I headed to buy a french curve that I need then it was off to buy a much needed Illustrator cs3 book. I've been using this program more and more lately and I think I'm remembering how to reuse it and all the updates that come with this new version. I also picked up a modern illustration book to get some ideas, it seems I get caught up in the artistic point of illustration and design that just makes me very meticulous about details. The cool thing is that as I was purchasing my selections the guy that worked there saw them and thought the books were cool, I asked if he did some design work he said "nah, I do music programing" and I was like "WHAT! What program do you use? and he was like "Reason" and I was like "Me, too!" exchanged e-mails and hopefully I can learn what he know and vice versa. I am not a musician or an artist or anything but its definitely where most of my inspiration comes from and being someone who has been disappointed with the music industry in the past its obvious that I have to make what I want to hear!

I hurried to my parents house to eat some delicious food my mom made and stormed to my house where my roommate was waiting to go to the Shogun Summer Release party. Shogun is that little store next to Smoothie King and  Potbelly's on University and Berry in the TCU area of Fort Worth if you haven't paid them a visit and your into modern urban street wear then this is the place for you! They carry a great selection of brands including some local and some more out there as well their own. I had a good time and met up with some friends out there and met some new ones. Funny thing happened I had just eaten and after a while of chatting it up at Shogun the NAMMI truck came and ever since I first saw them I've been wanting to try a Banh Mi sandwich but i was too full.

My good friend Natalia was there and told us about the 50th anniversary of the Amon Carter Museum, if your like me and had never gone before then you should its an all art exhibit from a private collection that was donated and other recently acquired pieces. They had a band, food and interactive booths all in all had a good time and I'm glad I finally went there. By this time we met up with Rene from WORD OF MOUTH SHIRTS and decided to hit up the Fort Worth night life at usual spot off of 7th street called the Pourhouse and got our drink on. Usually after drinking and socializing and after 2am we try to grab a bite to eat at Taco Heads but the line was ridiculous. I was looking around for another food truck and a hot dog truck around the corner, so I proceeded to investigate and as I came closer to my surprise the NAMMI truck was there! I met Garry and Tina and told them my story of how I always wanted to try their food but in one way or another I hadn't been able to, by this time they were closing and they hooked me up with a pork and tofu banh mi sandwich and it was awesome just like I always imagined...mmmmm.
